Where is Bhutan and where can you find the "Best of Bhutan" sights?
Bhutan is nestled in the majestic Himalayas. The small kingdom borders China (Tibet) to the north and India to the south, east and west. Bhutan is roughly the same size as Switzerland - but with 800,000 inhabitants, it only has about a tenth of the population of Switzerland. It is therefore a country of peace and space, as well as mountain ranges and valleys.

Most visitors start their journey from the international airport, which is located in the Paro Valley in the west of the country. Our selection of sights, our "Best of Bhutan", is located along the country's most important traffic artery - the west-east connection. This road connects Paro in the west with Bumthang in the heart of Bhutan and other regions in the east. Here you will discover majestic dzongs, quiet monasteries and untouched nature that make Bhutan so unique.

How do you travel through the kingdom?
Bhutan is characterized by high mountain ranges and deep valleys. Traffic within Bhutan is mainly by car on roads. The road network is characterized by well-developed country roads, which are often winding and steep. The average speed on the main connecting roads is rarely more than 30 kilometers per hour due to the conditions. You should therefore expect four to five hours for the approximately 115-kilometer road from Paro to Punakha.
